The UNC School of Government has recently published North Carolina Small Claims Law. This handy reference guide outlines small claims procedures, covering various issues presented before a magistrate in civil cases such as contracts, landlord-tenant law, torts, motor vehicle liens, and general principles of evidence. Additionally, there are chapters covering miscellaneous duties of magistrates to include performing marriage ceremonies, assigning year’s allowances, administration of oaths, and issuance of subpoenas and writs.
