SENATE BILL 82

 

 

AN ACT TO PROVIDE FOR STAGGERED TERMS FOR COMMISSIONERS OF THE TOWN OF BURGAW IN PENDER COUNTY.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

 

Section 1. The regular election of officers for the Town of Burgaw shall be held on Tuesday after the first Monday in May, 1961, and biennially thereafter under the laws regulating municipal elections, Article 3, Chapter 160, General Statutes of North Carolina, not inconsistent with this Act.

Sec. 2. At the regular election in May, 1961, and biennially thereafter, the mayor shall be elected for a term of two years and until his successor is duly elected and qualified.

Sec. 3. At the regular election in May, 1961, the two commissioners receiving the highest number of votes shall serve for terms of four years each, and the three commissioners receiving the next highest number of votes shall serve for terms of two years each. Thereafter, as the terms of office expire, commissioners shall be elected for terms of four years each and until their successors are duly elected and qualified.

Sec. 4. All laws and clauses of laws in conflict with this Act are hereby repealed.

Sec. 5. This Act shall become effective upon its ratification.
