AN ACT TO AMEND G. S. 153-4, SO AS TO FIX THE TERM OF OFFICE OF THE McDOWELL COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

 

Section 1. G. S. 153-4, as it appears in the 1964 Replacement Volume 3C of the General Statutes, is hereby amended by adding at the end thereof the following:

"The Board of County Commissioners of McDowell County shall consist of three (3) members to be elected as hereinafter provided.

"In the general election in 1966, there shall be elected three (3) members to the board of county commissioners. The candidate receiving the highest number of votes shall be elected for a term of six (6) years; the candidate receiving the second highest number of votes shall be elected for a term of four (4) years; the candidate receiving the third highest number of votes shall be elected for a term of two (2) years.

"Beginning with the general election in 1968, and biennially thereafter, the members of the board of county commissioners shall be elected for a term of six (6) years."

Sec. 2. Chapter 342, Session Laws of 1949, Chapter 426, Session Laws of 1957, Chapter 606, Session Laws of 1959, Chapter 30, Session Laws of 1961, and all other laws and clauses of laws in conflict with this Act are hereby repealed.

Sec. 3. This Act shall be in full force and effect from and after its ratification.
