AN ACT AUTHORIZING THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE CITY OF SANFORD TO GRANT FRANCHISE FOR AND REGULATE THE OPERATION OF AMBULANCES IN THE CITY OF SANFORD.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

Section 1. The Board of Aldermen of the City of Sanford is hereby authorized to grant, by ordinance, franchise to such person, persons, firms or corporation, upon reasonable monetary compensation, as it may deem advisable for the operation of ambulances or ambulance services upon and over the streets and roads of the City of Sanford and to adopt and enforce, by ordinance, reasonable rules and regulations relating to the operation of the same.

Sec. 2. The Board of Aldermen of the City of Sanford is also authorized to establish rates which may be charged by ambulance operators and to declare that the violation of the ordinance, and the regulations established thereunder, a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of not more than fifty dollars ($50.00) or imprisonment for not more than 30 days or both in the discretion of the court.

Sec. 3. The Board of Aldermen of the City of Sanford is also authorized to declare and provide by ordinance that any person who with intent to defraud shall obtain ambulance services without intending at the time of obtaining such services to pay, if financially able, reasonable charges therefor to be guilty of a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of not more than fifty dollars ($50.00) or imprisonment for not more than 30 days or both in the discretion of the court.

Sec. 4. This Act shall apply only to the City of Sanford.

Sec. 5. All laws and clauses of laws in conflict with this Act are hereby repealed.

Sec. 6. This Act shall be in full force and effect from and after its ratification.
