AN ACT TO AMEND CHAPTER 130 OF THE PRIVATE LAWS OF 1913 TO PROVIDE FOUR-YEAR TERMS FOR OFFICIALS OF THE TOWN OF MILTON.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

 

Section 1. Chapter 130 of the Private Laws of 1913 is hereby amended by rewriting Section 5 thereof to read as follows:

"Sec. 5. Regular town elections shall be held on the Tuesday after the first Monday in May, 1967, and quadrennially thereafter. At the regular election in 1967, and quadrennially thereafter, there shall be elected a mayor and four commissioners to serve for terms of four years, or until their successors are elected and qualified. Any vacancy in the office of mayor or commissioner shall be filled by the Board of Commissioners for the remainder of the unexpired term. Regular elections shall be conducted in accordance with Article 3, Chapter 160, of the General Statutes, except as herein provided."

Sec. 2. The notice heretofore given of the 1967 regular election in the Town of Milton is hereby ratified, validated, and confirmed, and no further notice of said election shall be necessary.

Sec. 3. All laws and clauses of laws in conflict with the provisions of this Act are hereby repealed.

Sec. 4. This Act shall be effective upon its ratification.
