AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE CITY OF MONROE TO FURNISH AMBULANCE SERVICES.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

 

Section 1. The City of Monroe is hereby authorized to engage in furnishing ambulance services in the City of Monroe and in the County of Union, and may jointly operate such services with the County of Union.

Sec. 2. For the purpose of this Act the word "ambulance" shall mean any vehicle specially designed for transporting the sick and incapacitated.

Sec. 3. Such ambulance services may be conducted in conjunction with and as a part of the rescue service being operated by the Fire Department of the City of Monroe.

Sec. 4. The City of Monroe is hereby authorized to establish and charge rates for ambulance services furnished by it.

Sec. 5. Any contract which the City of Monroe has entered into with the County of Union relative to the furnishing of rescue-ambulance services in the City of Monroe and the County of Union is hereby in all respects validated, ratified and confirmed.

Sec. 6. The authority granted by this Act shall be in addition to and supplementary to any similar authority granted by general law, and not in substitution therefor, and the City Council may in its discretion elect to proceed under authority of this Act, or under authority of any similar general law powers, or under authority of both.

Sec. 7. All laws and clauses of laws in conflict with this Act are hereby repealed.

Sec. 8. This Act shall be effective upon its ratification.
