AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF EDGECOMBE COUNTY TO FIX THE NUMBER OF SALARIED COUNTY EMPLOYEES, TO FIX THE COMPENSATION OF COUNTY OFFICIALS AND EMPLOYEES AND TO FIX THE FEES OF COUNTY OFFICERS.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

 

Section 1. G. S. 153-48.5, as the same appears in the 1965 Cumulative Supplement to Volume 3C, is amended by inserting after the word "Davie" and before the word "Graham" in the fourth line of said Section the word "Edgecombe,".

Sec. 2. Subsection 12a of G. S. 153-9, as the same appears in the 1965 Cumulative Supplement to Volume 3C, is hereby amended by inserting the word "Edgecombe," following the word "Columbus" and before the word "Forsyth" in the sixteenth line of said subsection 12a.

Sec. 3. That the provisions of subsection 3 of G. S. 153-48.3 as the same appear in Volume 3C of the General Statutes of North Carolina shall not be applicable to the Sheriff of Edgecombe County, the Deputy Sheriffs or other employees of the Sheriff's Department.

Sec. 4. That the provisions of subsection 4 of G. S. 153-48.3 as the same appear in Volume 3C of the General Statutes of North Carolina shall not be applicable to the Sheriff of Edgecombe County, the Deputy Sheriffs or other employees of the Sheriff's Department, until July 1, 1968.

Sec. 5. That all local laws and clauses of local laws fixing the salary of the Sheriff of Edgecombe County, fixing the number of deputies and employees of the Sheriff's office, and fixing the salaries or compensation of such deputies or other employees are hereby repealed.

Sec. 6. The Board of Commissioners of Edgecombe County is authorized and empowered in its discretion to place any of its elective officials, who are now receiving compensation on a fee basis, on a fixed salary basis, in lieu of such fees, and the fees which would otherwise have been collected and retained by said officers shall be collected, accounted for and paid by said officers into the General Fund of Edgecombe County.

Sec. 7. All laws and clauses of laws in conflict with this Act are hereby repealed.

Sec. 8. This Act shall be in full force and effect from and after its ratification.
