NORTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY

1971 SESSION

CHAPTER 1141

HOUSE BILL 1495

AN ACT TO CANCEL THE GENERAL ELECTION SCHEDULED FOR NOVEMBER 2, 1971.

Whereas, Chapter 201 of the Session Laws of 1971 provided for a general election to be held on November 2, 1971, for the purpose of voting on the state constitutional amendment lowering the voting age to 18 years; and

Whereas, Chapter 535 of the Session Laws of 1971 provided for the postponement of the vote of the people on the state constitutional amendment proposed by Chapter 201 in the event of ratification of the federal constitutional amendment lowering the voting age to 18 by September 1, 1971; and

Whereas, it now appears that at least 38 states have ratified the federal constitutional amendment lowering the voting age to 18, thus making it unnecessary to hold a general election on November 2, 1971, for the purpose of voting on constitutional amendments; Now, therefore,
