AN ACT TO PROVIDE FOR THE INSTALLATION OF ELECTRONIC VOTING UNITS IN THE SENATE AND HOUSE CHAMBERS.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

 

Section 1.  The Legislative Services Commission is authorized, in its discretion, to select and to cause to be installed in the Senate and House Chambers, prior to the convening of the 1973 session of the General Assembly, electronic voting units.

Sec. 2.  The electronic voting units, if selected and installed, shall be of a type selected by the Services Commission to record votes through electronic processes.

Sec. 3.  In the event that the Legislative Services Commission shall determine to purchase and install such equipment, the unexpended balance in the Legislative Building Commission's Capital Improvement Fund is hereby transferred to the General Assembly for such purpose. The cost of the electronic voting units and their installation shall be paid from these funds, and any excess costs remaining after these funds have been exhausted shall be paid from the Contingency and Emergency Fund.

Sec. 4.  This act shall be effective upon ratification.
