AN ACT TO AMEND CHAPTER 131 OF THE PRIVATE LAWS OF THE 1921 SESSION RELATING TO THE TERM OF OFFICE OF MEMBERS OF THE SCHOOL BOARD OF THE SALISBURY CITY SCHOOL ADMINISTRATIVE UNIT.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

 

Section 1.  Notwithstanding the provisions of Section 3, Chapter 131 of the Private Laws of the 1921 Session or any other provision of law, the members of the School Board of the Salisbury City School Administrative Unit shall be appointed by the City Council of the City of Salisbury for a term of four years, except that (1) upon the expiration of the terms of three members on June 30, 1971, two members shall be appointed for a term of one year and one member shall be appointed for a term of three years; (2) upon the expiration of the terms of the three members on June 30, 1973, one member shall be appointed for a period of only one year. Provided that the members of the present School Board of the Salisbury City School Administrative Unit shall continue to serve the remainder of their unexpired term.  Whenever any vacancy shall occur in the School Board during the term of office of any member thereof, the City Council of the City of Salisbury shall immediately thereafter appoint a successor to fill the vacancy for the remainder of the unexpired term.

Sec. 2.  All laws and clauses of laws in conflict with this act are hereby repealed.

Sec. 3.  This act shall be in full force and effect from and after its ratification.
