AN ACT TO PROVIDE FOR ADOPTION OF A MINOR CHILD BY A STEP-PARENT UNDER 21 YEARS OF AGE.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

 

Section 1.  G.S. 48-4 is hereby amended by adding a new subsection (e) as follows:

"(e)       If the petitioner is the spouse of the natural parent of the minor child, such petitioner may adopt the child even though the petitioner is not 21 years of age. Such petitioner shall be competent to execute the petition without the appointment of a general or testamentary guardian, or by guardian ad litem."

Sec. 2.  This act shall become effective upon its ratification.
