AN ACT WITH RESPECT TO THE DATE OF THE ELECTION ON PENDING AMENDMENTS TO THE CONSTITUTION OF NORTH CAROLINA.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

 

Section 1.  Chapter 201 of the Session Laws of 1971 is amended by inserting between the first and second sentences of Section 2 thereof the following:

"In the event that the amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America, providing that the right of citizens who are eighteen years of age to vote shall not be denied or abridged on account of age, is certified by the United States Administrator of General Services, not later than September 1, 1971, to have been adopted by the legislatures of at least three-fourths of the states, then the amendment set out in Section 1 of this act shall not be voted on at a general election to be held on November 2, 1971, but shall be voted on by the qualified voters of the State at the general election to be held on November 7, 1972."

Sec. 2.  Chapter 201 of the Session Laws of 1971 is amended by striking from Sec. 4. thereof the words and figures "January 1, 1972" and inserting in lieu thereof the words and figures "January 1 next after its ratification by the qualified voters of the State".

Sec. 3.  This act shall take effect upon its ratification.
