HOUSE BILL 1065

 

AN ACT TO REQUIRE THAT THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF CARTERET COUNTY SHALL FILL VACANCIES IN THE OFFICE OF SHERIFF FROM A LIST OF NOMINEES FROM THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE OF THE INCUMBENT SHERIFF'S POLITICAL PARTY.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

 

Section 1.  The Board of County Commissioners of Carteret County shall fill vacancies in the office of Sheriff of Carteret County created by resignation or death of the incumbent by majority vote of the Board.  The County Executive Committee of the political party of which the incumbent sheriff was a member shall prepare and submit a list of not fewer than three nominees for consideration by the board of commissioners in filling the vacancy.  The person selected by the commissioners to fill the vacancy must have been included in the list of nominees submitted by the County Executive Committee.

Sec. 2.  This act shall become effective upon ratification.
