CHAPTER 717

HOUSE BILL 1216

 

AN ACT RELATING TO THE TERMS OF OFFICE OF THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF AVERY COUNTY.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

 

Section 1.  From and after the first Monday in December of 1972, the Avery County Board of Commissioners shall consist of five members.

Sec. 2.  At the election of county officers to be held in Avery County in 1972, there shall be elected four county commissioners. The two candidates in such election receiving the highest number of votes shall serve for terms of four years, while the two candidates receiving the next highest number of votes shall serve for terms of two years.

Sec. 3.  At the election of county officers to be held in 1974, and every two years thereafter, there shall be elected three county commissioners.  The two candidates in each such election receiving the highest number of votes shall serve for terms of four years and the candidate receiving the third highest number of votes shall serve for a term of two years.

Sec. 4.  Sections 1 and 2 of Chapter 698, Session Laws of 1969, and all other laws and clauses of laws in conflict with this act are hereby repealed.

Sec. 5.  This act shall become effective upon ratification.
