AN ACT TO PROVIDE FOR A SUNSET ON BOARDS OR COMMISSIONS CREATED BY EXECUTIVE ORDER OF THE GOVERNOR.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

 

Section 1.  Article 3 of Chapter 147 of the General Statutes is amended by adding a new section to read:

"§ 147-16.2.  Continuing effect of executive order. - (a) Any executive order of the Governor which creates a board, committee, council, or commission expires two years after the effective date of the executive order, unless the Governor specifies an expiration date in the order; provided however that any such executive order which was in effect on July 1, 1983, expires on June 30, 1985, unless the Governor specified a different expiration date in any such order.

(b)       The Governor may extend any such executive order for additional periods of up to two years by doing so in writing before the expiration of the order."

Sec. 2.  This act is effective upon ratification.
