SENATE BILL 356

 

 

AN ACT TO limit an individual from running on the same general election ballot for more than one office, except to fill a vacancy for the remainder of an unexpired term.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

 

SECTION 1.  Article 11 of Chapter 163 of the General Statutes is amended by adding a new section to read:

"§ 163-124. No run for two separate offices at the same time.

(a)        No individual is eligible to have that individual's name on the general election ballot for two separate offices, unless one of the offices is for the remainder of the unexpired term for an office that requires an election to fill the unexpired portion of the term.

(b)        This section shall apply to any individual nominated under Article 9 of this Chapter, filing under G.S. 163-106, or filing a petition under this Article."

SECTION 2.  This act is effective with respect to elections occurring on or after January 1, 2012.
