A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT TO APPROPRIATE FUNDS TO THE VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENTS IN PAMLICO, CRAVEN, AND LENOIR COUNTIES.

Whereas, Pamlico, Craven, and Lenoir Counties are made up of rural communities; and

Whereas, the volunteer fire departments in rural communities need special equipment and training to provide thorough services to the communities; and

Whereas, funds are needed to provide the volunteer fire departments in these counties with equipment and supplies to ensure greater fire protection; Now, therefore,

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

Section 1.  There is appropriated from the General Fund to the Pamlico County Firemen's Association, Incorporated, the sum of $5,000 for the 1989-90 fiscal year to equip each volunteer fire department in Pamlico County with two pagers to provide better fire protection in rural Pamlico County communities.

Sec. 2.  There is appropriated from the General Fund to the Craven County Firemans Association, Inc., the sum of $3,000 for the 1989-90 fiscal year for water hoses, equipment, and supplies, to be allocated as follows:

(1)       $2,000 to the Bridgeton Volunteer Fire Department; and

(2)       $1,000 to the Fort Barnwell Rural Fire Department.

Sec. 3.  There is appropriated from the General Fund to the Lenoir County Firemen's Association the sum of $1,000 for the 1989-90 fiscal year for water hoses, equipment, and supplies for the Hugo Volunteer Fire Department.

Sec. 4.  This act shall become effective July 1, 1989.
