A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT to create the offense of aggravated assault on a female.

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1.  Chapter 14 of the General Statutes is amended by adding a new section to read:

"§ 14-34.7A.  Aggravated assault on a female.

Unless covered under some other provision of law providing greater punishment, any male person, who is at least 18 years of age, that assaults a female person and inflicts serious injury shall be guilty of a Class F felony."

SECTION 2.  This act becomes effective December 1, 2005, and applies to offenses committed on or after that date.
