A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT to appropriate funds to the natural science center of greensboro to assist in the implementation of its master plan to develop an interdisciplinary science education attraction.

Whereas, the Natural Science Center of Greensboro, Inc., adopted a 10‑year, $15,200,000 master plan to advance science education and tourism; and

Whereas, the master plan of the Natural Science Center of Greensboro, Inc., provides for expanding facilities and opportunities in experiential science education, targeting students and families; and

Whereas, $6,070,000 in local and private funding has been committed for this project; Now, therefore,

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1.  There is appropriated from the General Fund to the Natural Science Center of Greensboro, Inc., the sum of three million dollars ($3,000,000) for the 2006‑2007 fiscal year to assist in the implementation of its master plan to develop a nationally accredited science museum in order to provide experiential science education facilities and programs that will:

(1)       Complement State and local science education standards; and

(2)       Improve regional tourism through the development of a signature science‑based attraction.

SECTION 2.  This act becomes effective July 1, 2006.
