A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT to appropriate funds for high-cost community college programs.

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1.(a)  The State Board of Community Colleges shall identify the Allied Health Programs within the Community College System and shall weight the costs of Allied Health Programs as a group against all other programs within the System. The State Board shall modify its funding formula to allow for differentiation in funding between Allied Health Programs and all other programs.

SECTION 1.(b)  There is appropriated from the General Fund to the Community Colleges System Office the sum of ten million dollars ($10,000,000) for the 2005-2006 fiscal year and the sum of ten million dollars ($10,000,000) for the 2006-2007 fiscal year to provide for differentiated funding for Allied Health Programs.

SECTION 2.  This act becomes effective July 1, 2005.
