A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT to appropriate funds for the college of veterinary medicine clinical teaching and research fund.
The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:
SECTION 1. There is appropriated from the General Fund to the Board of Governors of The University of North Carolina the sum of five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000) for the 2008‑2009 fiscal year to be allocated to North Carolina State University for the College of Veterinary Medicine Clinical Teaching and Research Fund. These funds shall be used as follows:
(1) To allow advanced diagnostic and treatment options for animals of all species presented to the College of Veterinary Medicine Teaching Hospitals and Services where either the (i) owner financing of such options are limited, (ii) significant instructional value exists, or (iii) the conduct of such diagnostic and treatment options has the potential of adding significantly to core knowledge in the relevant clinical area.
(2) To allow establishment and support of a Veterinary Clinical Trials Program aimed at generating new, clinically relevant knowledge across multiple species by assessment of the efficacy of novel diagnostics, therapeutics, and treatment modalities in a broad population of the relevant species.
SECTION 2. This act becomes effective July 1, 2008.
