A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT to appropriate funds for the division teacch at the university of north carolina at chapel hill to PROVIDE SERVICES TO CHILDREN AND ADULTS WITH AUTISM AND OTHER COMMUNICATION HANDICAPS.

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1.  There is appropriated from the General Fund to the Board of Governors of The University of North Carolina the sum of three hundred fifty‑three thousand sixty‑four dollars ($353,064) in recurring funds for the 2008‑2009 fiscal year to be used by Division TEACCH (Treatment and Education of Autistic and related Communication‑handicapped Children) in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. These funds shall be allocated as follows:

(1)       $118,146 to expand the TEACCHing at Home pilot program to the Greensboro and Charlotte areas to provide home‑based early intervention services to autistic preschoolers from 18 months to three years of age.

(2)       $158,418 to increase faculty salaries to meet the minimum requirements of the School of Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

(3)       $76,500 to support student training at area TEACCH Centers across the State.

SECTION 2.  This act becomes effective July 1, 2008.
