A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT to appropriate funds to the State's public library systems for public library collections.
The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:
SECTION 1. There is appropriated from the General Fund to the Department of Cultural Resources the sum of five million dollars ($5,000,000) for the 2008‑2009 fiscal year. These funds shall be allocated to all public library systems eligible to receive funds from the Aid to Public Library Fund and used for public library collections. The funds appropriated in this act are not to be considered or distributed as part of the Aid to Public Library Fund. Each public library system shall receive the following:
(1) A base grant of $10,000; and
(2) A portion of the remaining funds based on the population of the library system's service area.
SECTION 2. This act becomes effective July 1, 2008.
