A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT TO APPROPRIATE FUNDS FOR THE NORTH CAROLINA BIOTECHNOLOGY CENTER'S EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND ENTREPRENEUR CENTER AND TO LEVERAGE MATCHING FUNDS FOR THIS FACILITY FROM THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AND PRIVATE INDUSTRY.
The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:
SECTION 1. There is appropriated from the General Fund to the North Carolina Biotechnology Center, Inc., the sum of three million dollars ($3,000,000) for the 2008‑2009 fiscal year, nonrecurring, which will be matched by funds from the federal government and private industry, to provide facilities needed to support the State's growing biotechnology community, now the nation's third largest. The new facility will be connected to the Biotechnology Center's existing building, and it will enable new initiatives in biotechnology leadership, entrepreneurship, K‑12 education, workforce training, international recruitment, and university research.
SECTION 2. This act becomes effective July 1, 2008.
