A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT TO APPROPRIATE FUNDS FOR THE PREVENTION OF ADOLESCENT PREGNANCIES AND THE PREVENTION OF SCHOOL DROPOUT DUE TO ADOLESCENT PREGNANCIES.

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1.  These is appropriated from the General Fund to the Department of Health and Human Services the sum of one million one hundred seventy‑eight thousand dollars ($1,178,000) for the 2008‑2009 fiscal year for parenting programs that keep pregnant and parenting students from dropping out of school.  These funds shall be used to increase individual local grants from forty‑seven thousand nine hundred eighty dollars ($47,980) to sixty‑five thousand dollars ($65,000) and be used to provide funds for 10 new programs or grants to counties with the highest teen birthrates and highest dropout rates.

SECTION 2.  This act becomes effective July 1, 2008.
