A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT to appropriate funds to establish three PILOT career and technical high schools.
The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:
SECTION 1. There is appropriated from the General Fund to the Department of Public Instruction the sum of one million five hundred thousand dollars ($1,500,000) for the 2008‑2009 fiscal year to establish three pilot career and technical high schools in different parts of the State. The purpose of these pilot high schools is to consolidate multiple career and technical education, world language, and advanced placements course offerings at a central location resulting in an efficient educational delivery system. These high schools shall (i) provide globally competitive skill training to students aligned with the 21st Century Workforce Goals and (ii) meet local and regional labor market needs through their expanded programs.
The Department of Public Instruction shall evaluate the pilot high schools at the end of their first year of operation and shall report the results of this evaluation to the Joint Legislative Education Oversight Committee by October 15, 2008.
SECTION 2. This act becomes effective July 1, 2008.
