AN ACT to establish a base salary for the secretary of health and human services.

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1.  G.S. 143B‑139 reads as rewritten:

"§ 143B‑139.  Department of Health and Human Services – head.

The Secretary of Health and Human Services shall be the head of the Department. The annual salary of the Secretary of Health and Human Services shall not be less than fifteen percent (15%) higher than the highest paid physician within the Department of Health and Human Services."

SECTION 2.  This act becomes effective July 1, 2009.
