A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT to require all state agencies producing archaeological research to provide annual reports to the commission of indian affairs.
The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:
SECTION 1. Chapter 70 of the General Statutes is amended by adding a new Article to read:
"Article 5.
"Annual Archaeological Reports.
"§ 70‑55. Annual archaeological reports.
The Department of Cultural Resources, The University of North Carolina System, the Department of Transportation, and all other State agencies that perform archaeological or archaeologically‑related functions for the State of North Carolina shall provide annual reports of their archaeological research, including any findings and conclusions resulting from that research, to the Commission of Indian Affairs. If practicable, the Department of Cultural Resources may coordinate with the other State agencies to produce a single annual report under this section."
SECTION 2. This act becomes effective July 1, 2009.
