A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT to increase class size in the public schools.

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1.  Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the maximum class size limits for grades 1‑12 in the public schools and the allotment ratios shall be one student higher for the 2009‑2010 school year and subsequent school years than they were for the 2008‑2009 school year.

SECTION 2.   Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the maximum average class size limits for grades 1‑12 in the public schools shall be two students higher for the 2009‑2010 school year and subsequent school years than they were for the 2008‑2009 school year.

SECTION 3.  This act becomes effective July 1, 2009.
