A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT directing the department of public instruction to add appropriate grade‑level curriculum materials on the 1898 wilmington race riot, as recommended by the 1898 wilmington race riot commission.

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1.  Article 8 of Chapter 115C of the General Statutes is amended by adding a new section to read:

"§ 115C‑81.4.  Curriculum on 1898 Wilmington Race Riot.

The State Board of Education shall develop and implement curriculum learning experiences on the 1898 Wilmington Race Riot, developing appropriate grade‑level curriculum materials, and provide teacher workshops for effectively integrating the materials into instruction."

SECTION 2.  This act is effective when it becomes law.
