Short Title:        Reduce Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.

A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT to appropriate funds for reducing the number of infant deaths due to sudden infant death syndrome, as recommended by the child fatality task force.

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1.  There is appropriated from the General Fund to the Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Public Health, the sum of two hundred fifty thousand dollars ($250,000) for the 2009‑2010 fiscal year, and the sum of two hundred fifty thousand dollars ($250,000) for the 2010‑2011 fiscal year.  These funds shall be used for the development and implementation of messages and materials for an ongoing Safe Sleep Awareness campaign, which will highlight safe sleep practices to aid in the prevention of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), and infant strangulations and suffocations.

SECTION 2.  This act becomes effective July 1, 2009.
