A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT to appropriate funds for special focus universities.
The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:
SECTION 1. There is appropriated from the General Fund to the Board of Governors of The University of North Carolina the sum of six million dollars ($6,000,000) for the 2009‑2010 fiscal year and the sum of six million dollars ($6,000,000) for the 2010‑2011 fiscal year to provide special focus institution funding. The Board of Governors shall divide these funds evenly between the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and the University of North Carolina at Asheville. These funds are needed because the mission and limited size of these institutions make it difficult for them to generate sufficient funds from the student credit hour enrollment funding model and other sources to provide the services students need.
SECTION 2. This act becomes effective July 1, 2009.
