A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT to direct the revisor of statutes to make the general statutes gender neutral and to recommend other statutory and constitutional changes to that end.
The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:
SECTION 1. The Revisor of Statutes is directed to make all changes to the General Statutes that do not change the law necessary to ensure that references to individuals are gender neutral where applicable. In implementing this section, the Revisor of Statutes is authorized to make outright substitutions consistent with examples in the North Carolina General Assembly Drafting Manual.
SECTION 2. The General Statutes Commission shall recommend to the 2010 Session of the 2009 General Assembly and the 2011 Session of the 2011 General Assembly any changes needed to make the General Statutes and the Constitution gender neutral that the Revisor of Statutes determines under Section 1 of this act cannot be made without an act of the General Assembly.
SECTION 3. This act is effective when it becomes law.
