A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT to clarify the meaning of reside legally as used in the notary public statutes.

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1.  G.S. 10B‑3 is amended by adding a new subdivision to read:

"§ 10B‑3.  Definitions.

The following definitions apply in this Chapter:

(20a)    Reside legally. – A citizen of the United States or an alien lawfully admitted for permanent residence as defined in 8 U.S.C. § 1101(a)(20).

SECTION 2.  This act is effective when it becomes law.
