2009-2010 Session

Welcome to the Joint Select Committee on Global Engagement

This year the North Carolina General Assembly formed the Joint Legislative Committee on Global Engagement, co-chaired by Senator Joe Sam Queen and Representative Becky Carney. Along with other members of the House and Senate, the group's vision is to position North Carolina as the most globally engaged state in the nation.

The Committee may study efforts to promote economic growth and stimulate job creation in the global economy. It may also work in conjunction with the Center for International Understanding to develop a Statewide Strategic Plan for Global Engagement. The Committee will also study North Carolina's current international activity in three sectors: business, government, and education.

The Committee may meet at various locations around the State in order to promote greater public participation in its deliberations. Locations will include Fort Bragg on March 16th, Asheville on April 6th, and Raleigh on April 27th.

The Committee may submit an interim report on the results of its study, including any proposed legislation, to members of the House and Senate on or before May 10, 2010. A final report is due by February 1, 2011.
