Welcome to the Senate Select Committee on Energy, Science and Technology
In 2009 the North Carolina General Assembly established the Senate Select Committee on Global Engagement, co-chaired by Senator Joe Sam Queen of Haywood County, and Senator Katie Dorsett of Guilford County. Along with other members of the Senate, this committee aims to study regional and statewide research strategies, energy initiatives, high-tech economic activity, all focused on keeping North Carolina both innovative and competitive for the future.
The committee will take up appropriate bills that deal with Energy, Science and Technology. In addition, the committee may study and hear presentations from key players in both the public and private sectors. Discussions will focus on innovative trends, opportunities, ideas, products and practices. This will help advance research, commercialization and human capital development. Other topics may include strategic investment, workforce development, and IT security and enhancement, advancing North Carolina’s competitiveness for the 21st century.
The committee will meet upon the call of the co-chairs while we are in session. This site contains information regarding committee membership, upcoming meetings and related events; tracks legislation recommended by the Committee; and provides documents and reports distributed at previous meetings. The Committee members hope this site is helpful. If you have any questions or comments contact any member of the staff.
