A HOUSE RESOLUTION reestablishing the house select committee on sex offender registration and internet crimes against children.
Whereas, the Speaker of the House of Representatives established the Select Committee on Sex Offender Registration and Internet Crimes Against Children on February 8, 2006; and
Whereas, the select committee, cochaired by Representatives Karen Ray and Bruce Goforth met four times and submitted an interim report on April 20, 2006, recommending five pieces of legislation to the 2006 short session; and
Whereas, the select committee, conducted seven meetings prior to the 2007 Regular Session, meeting in Raleigh, Asheville, and Mooresville, taking extensive testimony, and recommending seven pieces of legislation to the 2007 Regular Session; and
Whereas, the House of Representatives desires to extend the select committee as there remains significant work to be done in the areas under the select committee's charge; and
Whereas, House Rule 26(a) allows the House, by resolution, to establish select committees; Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
SECTION 1. The Select Committee on Sex Offender Registration and Internet Crimes Against Children is created. The Select Committee shall consist of the number of members appointed by the Speaker. The Speaker shall issue a charge to the Select Committee and provide for its meetings during the 2007 Regular Session and during the interims in 2007 and 2008. The Select Committee may submit an interim report, including any proposed legislation, on or before May 1, 2008, and shall submit a final report on the results of its study not later than December 31, 2008.
SECTION 2. This resolution is effective upon adoption.
