Welcome to the Program Evaluation Division Website

The Program Evaluation Division (PED) is a central, non-partisan unit of the Legislative Services Commission of the North Carolina General Assembly that assists the General Assembly in fulfilling its responsibility to oversee government functions. The mission of the Program Evaluation Division is to evaluate whether public services are delivered in an effective and efficient manner and in accordance with the law. The Joint Legislative Program Evaluation Oversight Committee oversees formal evaluation of state agency programs by the Program Evaluation Division.

JLPEOC MEETING

The Joint Legislative Program Evaluation Oversight Committee is next scheduled to meet on Monday, December 14, 2020 at 1:00 pm in Room 544 of the Legislative Office Building. Items on the agenda include a presentation of PED's forthcoming report on coordination with nonprofit organizations for disaster recovery planning.

LEGISLATION UPDATE

During legislative sessions, our Legislative Tracking resource will be updated several times per week with status information on bills derived from PED report recommendations.

NEWS

On November 9, 2020, both WRAL and WUNC reported on the release and presentation of PED's report, Lack of a Dedicated State-Level Effort Challenges North Carolina’s Capacity to Increase Teacher Diversity.

Carolina Coast Online reported on both the impending retirement of PED Director John Turcotte as well as the release and presentation of the Divison's report, Department of Transportation and Council of Internal Auditing Did Not Ensure DOT Compliance with Internal Audit Act.
