A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT to provide for an earlier convening of the general assembly for a one-day organizational session followed by an extended recess.
The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:
SECTION 1. G.S. 120-11.1 reads as rewritten:
"§ 120-11.1. Time of meeting.
The regular session of the Senate and House of
Representatives shall be held biennially beginning at 12:00 noon 10:00
A.M. on the third Wednesday after the second Monday second
business day in January next after their election.election,
except if that day is a Friday, the session shall instead convene on Thursday,
January 2. The Senate and House shall convene that day for a two-day session.
When the Senate and House of Representatives adjourn on the second day, they
stand adjourned until 12:00 noon on the third Wednesday thereafter."
SECTION 2. This act becomes effective January 1, 2009.
