A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT to repeal the prohibition on contracting for the maintenance of prison facilities and to direct the department of CORRECTION TO STUDY CONTRACTING FOR MAINTENANCE SERVICES AT PRISON FACILITIES.

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1.  Section 19.10 of S.L. 2010-31 is repealed.

SECTION 2.  The Department of Correction may proceed with its current request for proposals for prison maintenance for Tabor City Correctional Institution, Bertie Correctional Institution, and Maury Correctional Institution.

SECTION 3.  The Department of Correction shall study the potential benefits and costs of contracting for maintenance services at prison facilities and report its findings to the 2013 Session of the General Assembly. The Department shall not expand private maintenance contracts to additional prison facilities unless authorized by the 2013 Session of the General Assembly.

SECTION 4.  This act is effective when it becomes law.
