A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT to expand the NC 54/I-40 Corridor study to include those portions of NC Highway 54 in wake county passing through Cary and Morrisville.

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1.  The Department of Transportation, in conjunction with any affected Metropolitan Planning Organization or Rural Planning Organization affected, shall expand the NC 54/I-40 Corridor Study to include those portions of NC Highway 54 in Wake County passing through Cary and Morrisville.

The expansion shall include a master land-use policy, growth patterns, and transportation plans and address the development of transportation strategies that will guide public and private actions, investments, and capital project priorities which improve mobility, safety, and access to all modes of transportation.

SECTION 2.  The Department shall report the initial findings of the NC 54/I-40 Corridor Study expansion required by this section to the Legislative Transportation Oversight Committee no later than October 1, 2012.  The Department shall continue to report annually on May 1 of each year until such time as the study expansion is complete and final recommendations can be made to the Legislative Transportation Oversight Committee and the Fiscal Research Division on the master plan and any legislative changes needed to implement the plan.

SECTION 3.  This act is effective when it becomes law.
