A JOINT RESOLUTION to authorize the legislative research commission to study the long-term future energy needs of the State, including its energy needs for various modes of transportation, and to develop a long-term plan that addresses the sources of energy that are able to meet those needs and the energy infrastructure associated with those sources of energy.

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

SECTION 1.  The Legislative Research Commission may study the long-term future energy needs of the State, including its energy needs to operate various modes of transportation, and to develop a long-term plan that addresses the sources of energy that are able to meet those future needs and the energy infrastructure needed to support those sources of energy. In developing its long-term future energy plans, the Legislative Research Commission shall specifically consider all of the following as potential sources of energy to meet the State's future energy needs: nuclear energy; coal, natural gas, peat, and other fossil fuel-based energy; solar electric and solar thermal energy; wind energy; hydropower; geothermal energy; energy derived from ocean current and wave energy resources; and energy derived from biomass resources and any other energy sources the committee identifies for consideration. In developing its long-term energy plans, the Legislative Research Commission shall specifically consider the energy needs for all of the following various modes of transportation: automobiles, commercial trucks, buses, and trains.  The Legislative Research Commission may consider any other issues the Commission considers relevant to this topic.

SECTION 2.  The Legislative Research Commission may make an interim report to the 2011 General Assembly when it reconvenes in 2012 and shall make its final report to the 2013 General Assembly.

SECTION 3.  This resolution is effective upon ratification.
