Overview: Section 5 of S.L. 2017-206 amends the membership of the North Carolina Medical Board by changing the entities that appoint the public members. Previously, the Governor appointed three public members. Under this act, the Governor appoints one public member and the General Assembly appoints two public members. For the two public members appointed by the General Assembly, one member is upon the recommendation of the Speaker of the House of Representatives and one is upon the recommendation of the President Pro Tempore of the Senate. Additionally, new language is inserted to prohibit a public member from being a health care provider or the spouse of a health care provider.

This section became effective August 30, 2017, and applies to vacancies occurring after June 30, 2017.
